GRACE - RISING STAR ON THE MUSIC SCENE

By Iulia Leilua

She's fresh, sassy and extremely talented, and when you look at Grace Senituli's publicity photos, you know she's got star quality in abundance.

Grace's stunning looks are a blend of Tongan and Niuean parentage, and her voice is sophisticated for someone so young.

Born in New Zealand, Grace moved from New Lynn to Australia with her family in 1991. Her father, John Senituli, came from the village of Fahefa in Tonga, and her mother Vicki, from Tamakau Tonga in Niue.

Like many young Polynesians, Grace grew up listening to traditional Pacific Island music and enriched her island music heritage with pop, R&B, dance and other contemporary sounds at school.

After leaving school two years ago, Grace moved into full time work as a recording and performing artist and embarked on a hectic work schedule.

In April 2000, Grace recorded four tracks with multi-award winning American producer Tommy Faragher and Sydneysider Nick Howard at Mad Fly Studios in Brooklyn, New York.

After returning home to Sydney, she followed up with a successful debut launch at nightclub Gas and a showcase performance at the Pacific Circle Music Expo at Fox Studios.

Last year, she remixed one of the tracks that Faragher and Howard wrote for her - 'Good Thing' - with Sydney-based Samoan record producer, Joe Fidow (formerly 'Kulcha'). Although this song is already doing well in New Zealand stores, the song has just undergone another transformation.

Earlier this year, Grace was recommended by Mai FM radio producers in Auckland to remix 'Good Thing' with their recording team C-Traxx (Carlos Marsh) and Ron Mak (Ron Faneva) from Player Park. Grace was promoting her single in Auckland at the time.

C-Traxx and Ron Mak travelled to Sydney in June this year to record the remixed track with Grace at Jaminajar Recording Studios. True to form, things have already moved fast for the twenty year old. The latest version of 'Good Thing' is set to feature in an Australian film called 'Blurred'

The song has a second single release hot on its heels. 'Cruel World', an original, soulful R&B track, will play on Mai FM, adding two new cruisy, funky songs to people's summer music selections.

Never one to rest on her laurels, Grace has turned her attention to recording her debut album. Her managers, Polyphony Entertainment in Australia, have even set up a website for her called 'Grace's World'
www.gracesworld.com to keep fans updated.

Photos, music clips, tour dates and biography details are all available online for this "radiant jewel in the Polyphony Entertainment Crown".

New Zealand fans will be able to see Grace perform live at the Westfield Style Pasifika Fashion Show in Auckland on 24 and 25 September.
