PACIFIC BODYBUILDING CHAMPS 2001

The 5th Pacific Island Bodybuilding Champs to be held at the Otara Recreation Centre on the 1st of September 2001 will feature guest poser, Tevita Aholelei - 1st Tongan IFBB Pro www.tevitaaholelei.com.

According to Mark Vaauli, Vice President of PIBBA. The Pacific Island Bodybuilders Association was formed and founded in 1997 by Ms Esther Tofilau, with a vision to raise the level of self-esteem and to promote all Maori and Pacific Island Bodybuilders within Aotearoa. Secondly to provide them with the knowledge and training skills to gain the confidence in becoming a World Bodybuilding Champion.

With humble beginnings in 1997 and the community support, a Mr. LeTanoa Bodybuilding competition was proven successful. In 1998 and 1999 PIBBA was extended with an invitation from the INBA (International Natural Bodybuilding Association) to take a Pacific Island Team to the INBA World Natural Universe in Las Vegas USA and World Natural Olympia in Greece. 1999 included the invitation for Ms Tofilau to be a Judge at this International Bodybuilding Event.

2000 opened more opportunity for PIBBA, with Ms Tofailau being elected onto the Executive Committee of the NZFBB (New Zealand Federation of Bodybuilders Incorporated). With the NZFBB being the main body who is recognized by the IOC (International Olympic Committee), NZDA (New Zealand Drug Agency), Hillary Commission and the New Zealand Sports Federation.

This move has no dealt gain credibility for PIBBA by way of PIBBA's bodybuilding events being sanctioned by the NZFBB and is also a qualifying event for the New Zealand National. From the Nationals,
members have the opportunity to become New Zealand representatives for World Bodybuilding Championship.

One of PIBBA's success stories is Mr. Tony Ligaliga, who competed at his first Bodybuilding competition in 1996, and is now one of the New Zealand's and Samoa's Top World Bodybuilder achiever. PIBBA will hope to work in partnership with Schools, Nutrition's, Health Organizations, Fitness Industry, Educational Institutes, Employment and Funding Agencies, Government Agents, Parents and pass Athletes to assist current Athletes acquire skills and knowledge necessary to deal and achieve successfully with the demands of the modern and ever changing world.

Moving into the New Millennium 2000, PIBBA's 4th Championship was proven to be very successful with Mr. Sonny Schmidt as guest poser, who is IFBB's 1995's Master Mr. Olympia and is the first Pacific Islander to receive his pro-card.
