Often we hear the saying that the future of any country depends on its youth. 'Youth and Changes' was chosen as the theme for this year's youth week. Started 28th of April and ran to the 3rd of May.
This year's event promoted youth participation in traditional activities, sports, dramas and performances.
It has been announced that the youth of Samoa have contributed a lot to the changes in income through the traditional materials and fine arts that they produce as a way to earn income.
It is a fact that not all Samoan youth will end up with an office job in Apia the capital of Samoa. Most young men work in the plantations and food for the family, church and the village. Most girls are involved with the village women's committee where they take part in weaving, sewing and producing handicraft which are sold to tourists.
This year's program commenced on Sunday evening 28th April with a
special church
service which was screened live on TV Samoa and aired on Radio 2AP. Key
speaker for this year was Hon. Ulu Vaomalo Kini, the Minister of Youth
Sports and Culture.
The
weeks' program also included the prize presentation for sports, traditional
hymn, drama, Samoan traditional performances. Participation was from 15
districts: Faleata, Sagaga, Vaimauga, Falealili, Aana, Faasaleleaga, Anoamaa/Fagaloa,
